JEAN JULLIEN: PURPLE PONY

NANZUKA is pleased to announce that French artist Jean Jullien will present his new solo exhibition PURPLE PONY at PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO.

November 14 – December 01, 2025

PURPLE PONY blurs the boundary between reality and fiction, expressing Jean Jullien’s creative process of gently confusing and delighting the viewer. In this exhibition, Jullien turns his gaze toward his everyday life in Japan, capturing what he sees, feels, and loves while quietly asking why he is drawn to it.

In today’s world, fiction often remains confined within media such as books and films, while lies tend to appear in negative forms such as fake news, misinformation, and artificial realities. Amid this atmosphere, Jullien embraces fiction not as an escape from reality, but as a way of seeing the familiar world with tenderness, finding new warmth and perspective in the ordinary moments of life.

Tokyo, with its blend of imagination and routine, becomes his stage. Here, fiction seeps into reality, into the streets, the people, and the countless images that shape the city, until reality itself feels slightly expanded, as if touched by dreams. PURPLE PONY moves freely between these two worlds, the real and the imagined, offering an intimate reflection on affection, imagination, and the quiet beauty of living.

Stepping away from the tales of adventure and adversity depicted in JUJU’s Castle, currently on view at NANZUKA ART INSTITUTE in Shanghai, PURPLE PONY unfolds as a gentler, more tranquil exhibition, like a love letter, tender and personal in tone.
