SANDRA ROJO PICÓN: PARADISO PERDUTO
VILLAZAN Madrid presents Paradiso Perduto, the new solo exhibition by Sandra Rojo Picón.
May 7 – June 12, 2026
Sandra Rojo Picón, a Spanish artist born in 1985, masterfully blends her background in fashion design with her passion for painting. Through a unique combination of humor, beauty, and emotion, her work reflects a constant search for aesthetic meaning, drawing inspiration from cinema, art, fashion, and nature particularly the fleeting delicacy of flowers.
Her training in fashion in London plays a key role in shaping her visual language, allowing her to analyze and capture the essential features that define the character and context of her subjects. A recurring theme in her work is the light and skies of Madrid, expressed through studies of clouds in varied textures and tones, creating a distinctive style she defines as “Dreamlike Pop.”
Sandra´s artistic practice seeks to create accessible and sincere work that connects with everyday life, painting from a place of honesty and emotional resonance.
The title of the exhibition is inspired by one of her favorite films, Great Expectations by Alfonso Cuarón.
Paradiso Perduto is the house where Estella, the protagonist, grows up. This exhibition has created a place that doesn't exist but where one would love to be, a place where only beautiful things reside, time stands still, and the light is always summery. Since no one knows where this place is, Paradiso Perduto is the perfect name for this exhibition.
The works that make up this exhibition form a cohesive body, connected by a common thread. The epicenter of Paradiso Perduto is a swimming pool, and each painting tells a story that takes place either in that pool or in the surrounding rooms, unfolding at an unhurried pace.
